Story

Orpington Sea Cadets. We have been based at our present base in St Mary Cray since 1953 but have been serving the community for past 75 years. In this time, we have been providing opportunities for the young people of Orpington to help them to grow into responsible adults.

We do this by installing values such as honesty, integrity, self-discipline and loyalty through the training opportunities we make available. We empower cadets to develop new life skills though fun and adventurous nautical activities. But most of all cadets create lifelong friendships and life skills whilst having the most amazing fun.

We are now looking to the community for help and support to help us face today’s challenges. Due to the age of our premises, we need to undertake a large renovation this year. Our main priority is our secondary building (the annex) which houses classrooms and toilet facilities. The current wooden building was erected in 1974, was second hand at the time, and is now coming to the end of its natural life. We have been looking to replace it with a new serviceable structure, this will include a new classroom for our cadets and shower and toilet facilities.

This project will improve our facilities which will enable us to continue to provide the young people of our community life changing experiences and offer a platform for them to grow and develop into responsible adults
