    Story

We are making great progress but we're not there yet. There has been an overwhelming response against the proposal and that is down to your support, thank you. Our focus now is to influence those who will decide which proposals are removed from the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan (GNSP) and which go forward the the next stage.

Background... The Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan proposes the development of 5,000 homes to create a "Garden Village" that could stretch along both sides of Station Road from the A52 at Elton on the Hill all the way to Orston. To the West it will stretch as far as the Smite and to the East to the border between Nottinghamshire and Liecestershire, just two fields short of Bottesford. Lets not be misled by the term "Garden Village", it will be a large building estate.

Achievements... OSVAID (Orston and Surrounding Villages Against Inappropriate Development) working on behalf of residents, commissioned a professional response to the consultation and that report provided a fantastic foundation for our objections, of which over 700 were submitted.

Next Steps... We need to influence the right people to persuade them to see the proposal for what it is. Whilst we could try to do this ourselves there's a fair chance we could target the wrong people and not have our voice heard. With this in mind, we are again turning to professional help and have engaged Cartwright Communications, a PR company, to work on our behalf. This is a well respected, influential company who are experienced at lobbying. The PR company will do the following: -

a, Identify where the 'Garden Village' proposal sits within the GNSP in context with other developments. Early signs are that there is a presumption against developing on green belt land and there are likely to be other sites to be pushed far more. For example the land around Nottingham, Nottingham aerodrome and the land along the A453 between Clifton and the power station.

b, Work to identify which Councillors will be involved in the shortlisting of developments in the GNSP and who will be lobbied. Find out which land owners are pushing which schemes.

c, Ask Councillors and key influencers where they want the housing to go. Rather then just lobby individuals against the Garden Village proposal, they would be encouraged to support other better thought out options.

Lets stop this plan before it starts.

    Please help by donating now..

    Thank you

Hi everyone, First of all a huge thank you everyone who has donated. The target was smashed within 48 hours and we are continuing to receive donations. Whilst we have achieved our initial target it's likely that the campaign will be on-going for some time to come, and the better we are funded the more we can do to stop this development. The next meeting of OSVAID is 25th August, we'll discuss the Just Giving page then and decide what to do. It's clear that there is huge support to stop this development. Thank you, you are brilliant! Paul

Good luck with the campaign. I am not from your area but am profoundly against the nationwide Garden Village scheme and think affected areas should unit in opposition.
