Story

Every Christmas, as St. David’s Uniting Church and Castle Square URC celebrate the birth of Christ - which the angels heralded as ‘good news of great joy for all people’ – we fundraise or donate money to those in our communities and beyond who are in particular need of some ‘good news of great joy’. This year, whilst our fundraising will have to be a little different, our commitment to giving isn’t and so we will be supporting the following:

Christian Aid

Our 9 lessons and carols service will include the chance to donate to the charity that ‘exists to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty’.

Women’s Aid RCT

On Gift Sunday, the local charity we will support is Women’s Aid RCT – a charity whose vision is that ‘Every woman and child can live free from fear of violence and abuse’. Last year the charity supported 170 individuals throughout December, including 28 children living in refuge and 18 children and young people who were receiving support within the community.

The David Griffiths Church School, Madagascar

In 1820, David and Mary Griffiths were sent as missionaries from Wales to Madagascar, sharing the gospel and founding the link between the two countries which continues to this day. At a time in which the country is once again victim to famine, donations to the school named after the Welsh hero will go to support the health, well-being and education of the schoolchildren it supports as our Gift Sunday global charity.

Other Giving

As well as supporting the above charities, St. David’s Uniting Church will be sending donations and/or Christmas gifts to Homestart, Cymorth Cymru’s hostel in Mill Street, Coed-y-lan primary school, our premises users, English language class friends, and those who suffered from the February flooding in Sion Street, Pontypridd.

Please pray for the above charities and community groups – for their workers and those who are supported through them – and reflect on how you might be able to support them financially this Christmas.
