Weʼve raised £470 to Fight the BHH plans to build a new housing estate on 'Historic Parkland' within the small village of Overstone

    Story

Overstone RUINED was formed as a protest group against the Barry Howard Homes plans to build 60 houses on the Church Farm fields (adjacent to Overstone Church and in front of the hall) to ‘Enable Development' of Overstone Hall.

Application number DA/2018/0275 was lodged on the 14th May 2018.

Outline planning permission for the construction of 60 dwellings for the part enabling development of the restoration of Overstone Hall, including alterations to the existing access,

    WHAT ARE OUR OBJECTIONS

The whole idea of restoring Overstone Hall is to maintain it as a Heritage Asset for future generations but converting it into flats and building a housing estate around it, is hardly in keeping with its’ heritage values.

Overstone is only a small village of 750 residents and a housing development on this scale will quite literally increase it by a third in size and majorly impact on its’ infrastructure.

There will only be one road (Church Lane) leading to or from the new estate and with the potential for 180+ cars having to turn onto an already busy Sywell Road via a restricted view T Junction (at peak times), opposite Overstone Primary School, it’s a recipe for disaster.

No account has been taken for improved infrastructure i.e. Shops, schools etc.

Daventry District Council have insisted to the developer he build these properties within the Parish of Overstone,“ as the local residents stand to benefit the most from Overstone Halls’ restoration”.

Nobody actually stands to gain from its’ restoration apart from the developer. The hall is being converted into flats so no one will be able to visit it as a heritage site and no one will be able to look at it from the road without seeing dozens of modern houses dotted around it.

We already have 3500+ houses being built on the new Overstone Leys and Overstone Green developments, so there’s certainly no requirement for new housing in the area.

We desperately need help in funding for professional legal advice, Traffic Surveys, Landscape Surveys and Heritage Surveys to counter the arguments put forward by the developer in this application.

As the attached picture shows, this is a beautiful part of Northamptonshire, lets leave it this way for future generations to enjoy.

On yer bike Barry (Howard Homes)!

NB.Any left over funds will be donated to local charities.

I dont believe there is public support for preservation of this anomaly. The recent presentation by BH made no financial sense, thus a trojan horse to the detriment of the villages.Keep up the fight!
