Story
On the 6th December 2017 a split second changed several peoples lives forever.
Owen was travelling home from work late at night, as he often did when he temporarily lost control of his car causing it to crash against a brick wall.
Thanks to Owens work colleague, the paramedics and the medical team and surgeon who operated on him for six hours Owen is still here.
As a result of the accident though his spinal cord snapped and is irreparable causing Owen now to be paralysed from mid chest down and will now spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
After three months in Pinderfields hospital Owen is now ready to return home.
But his home needs adapting dramatically just to provide the basics: access in, out and around the house, a bedroom and bathroom downstairs and (as an absolute dream) a kitchen he can use, not to mention the equipment he will now need.
Been able to shower alone, visit the toilet, change our clothes privately, make a cup of tea are all things we take for granted day by day but at the moment the family home can not provide these basics for Owen.
There is funding available to make these changes but we estimate a shortfall of £20,000 which is why we have set up this page.
We are planning several fundraising activities in the next few months and are hoping you, our family and friends will support these and perhaps help with fund raising ideas?
Anything: big or small will help.
As a family we do not know how we would have ever got through the last three months were it not for the support of our extended family and friends, but we are calling on you all again to support the next step in our journey.
We shall be forever grateful.
Thank-you from the bottom of our hearts.
