Story
The Oxenhope Straw Race is a fun event which takes place every year in the pennine village of Oxenhope. Teams of two complete a 3.5 mile course whilst carrying a bale of straw and having a pint in each of the village pubs. This is a popular event which has been running now for over 40 years. We raise much needed funds for the local Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice as well as supporting a number of other small local charities. Over the year’s we have donated in the region of £500,000 and seen many local residents benefit from the generousity of entrants and their sponsors. In 2019 we are dedicating the race to our Chairman, Ian Barrett, who died earlier this year. Ian and his family benefitted directly from the services provided in the community from Manorlands and the committee felt this was a fitting way to remember Ian and say a big thank you to Manorlands.
