I've raised £2613 to fund a filmed production of the opera, A Feast in Time of Plague, by Russian composer César Cui.

Such songs I do not have, but let me sing a hymn in honour of the Plague. I wrote this hymn last evening after we had parted. I felt the need, the first in all my life, to write in rhyming lines.
We are raising funds for a filmed production of A Feast in Time of Plague, an opera by Russian composer César Cui. It's a striking parallel to the current crisis and a thought-provoking, kaleidoscopic display of the pressures and pent-up energy of a plague-ridden society.
The film includes a cast of 5 soloists, a chorus of 8, and a chamber orchestra of 15 observing current distancing guidelines within a very spacious venue at New Road Baptist Church in the Oxford City Centre. Musical director, Lucia Švecová, has arranged a special reduction of Cui’s score which will enable recording under the circumstances. Behind the scenes is a team made up of of 13 designers, producers, directors, technicians, administrators and fundraisers.
Filming is due to begin in May 2021 with a premiere in June 2021 on the Oxford Opera Society’s website and YouTube page with the possibility of researching alternative options to broadcast to a wider audience.
The Oxford Opera Society remains committed to inclusivity by providing performance opportunities to students, local residents, and young professionals. The Society is a not-for-profit organisation managed by volunteers. In this uncertain time for the arts, our production cannot depend on ticket sales to make up costs. Any donation you feel you are able to give, however small, will ensure our fees can be paid and that future projects are possible.
