Story
THE PROJECT
Many plants of Nepal are in danger of disappearing for ever due to deforestation, land slides and excessive use. Nature and environmental projects are not being given the highest priority in Nepal so Garden in the Himalayas was created to preserve local flora, educate local communities and inspire young generations to protect what's around them.
Garden in the Himalayas is 5 years old and till now has been funded by the founder. Additional £750 net was raised from plant hunting expeditions and around £850 was donated by Purna's supportive clients in London. At this stage, we need more financial support to involve and benefit the local communities and make the Garden thrive.
WHY WE NEED THE MONEY
The money raised will go towards the most urgent needs, such as securing salary for two full-time gardeners and a part-time supervisor for one year (total of £3480 ), reinforce the fencing to protect the garden from household animals (depending on the material, either untreated wood, treated is unavailable in the region) or metal net with cement post, the cost varies from £700 to £2000) . Buying fruit trees and seeds for distribution among the local communities (£500-£600) is another goal for this year. Whatever amount is left, it will be allocated towards educational materials to get the local schools involved and a plant hunting expedition to search for more native species. (Permits are granted for the Annapurna region.)
We also need gardening tools, such as a lawnmower, lopers and sheers, secateurs, pruning saws, hand trowels, forks and spades.
REWARDS
£10 and more will get you 7 beautiful postcards with the plants of Himalayan flora. (Please provide your address via email lalupate@hotmail.co.uk)
£350 will give two people a two-night stay in a fantastic house called Mahakaruna, 40 minutes walk from the Garden. The views are breathtaking and the house so comfortable you'll feel like staying much longer. (Visit our website for more info, link below)

I belive that nature (and human spirit) has no boundries and what is saved and nourished in one part of the world will one day benefit the whole Mother Earth. I was born in Nepal and for the last 18 years have lived and worked in London. I'm a gardener and horticultist.
