Story

This is our beautiful daughter Lisa, who in 2004 on her 24th birthday received the devastating news that she had tested positive for MS. MS or Multiple Sclerosis is an incurable, degenerative disease that attacks the Central Nervous System which slowly robs the sufferer's ability to lead a normal healthy life. Over the past eighteen months Lisa's mobility has deteriorated, whilst she continues to have sensory problems she now requires a stick or crutch for walking and stability, this will get worse. Nobody knows what their future holds, but the fear of what the future holds for Lisa as a person, wife, mother, daughter & sister is almost as crippling as the disease itself. On the 22nd September Lisa and I are travelling to Russia for the life changing HSCT (Hematopioetic Stem Cell Transplant) at the National Pirigov Medical Centre in Moscow, under the care of Dr Denis Federenko who has successfully treated hundreds of MS patients. Briefly HSCT uses a combination of harvesting Lisa's stem cells from her bone marrow, a high dose of chemotherapy then reinfusing her stem cells to create a brand new immune system free of MS. The aim of the treatment is to halt the progression and possibly improve her current symptoms. It's a decision not to be taken lightly, the procedure is gruelling and will take a month to complete. Leaving her husband Lee and son Charlie will be heart wrenching, but it's a small price to pay for the chance to spend more quality time with a brighter future ahead of them. Funding for the procedure is in place, the flights and hotel are booked. The reason for crowdfunding is twofold, firstly when Lisa comes home she will require regular specialist physiotherapy to strengthen the muscles that the MS has damaged over time and help regain her balance. Secondly many of her friends and work colleagues have said that they "would like to do something" to help support her on this journey. HSCT is Lisa's future, and we are all so very proud of her.
