Weʼve raised £50 to help two nurses fund a charity trip to work in Ghana
- Funded on Monday, 18th September 2017
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
In 2011 the vision was created to travel to foreign countries to offer our knowledge, skills, expertise and compassion during our Annual Leave. We were three women of a certain age and we researched and planned our first trip which was to Nepal. We spent 9 months raising funds by selling donated goods in car boot sales. We made preserves and produced a variety of crafts for raffles and sales as well as organised quizzes and music events. We arrived at Mumbai Airport at 3am and realised that we were on our way to the destination we had worked so hard to get to!! Wow!!! Our next trip took us to Peru where we found altitude and weather conditions challenging but felt that we had contributed to the wellbeing of the street children that we were supporting. This brings us to our next planned trip and where we hope to return next time. We decided to go to another continent. Africa was our choice and Ghana the country. Due to an accident and life threatening injury the week before our trip only two of us were able to go. The healthcare needs of the country were evident from the outset. Our knowledge and experience was invaluable and all support was gratefully received. Our next trip was planned closer to home to enable recuperation and for the team member to gain confidence to continue. We went to Bulgaria and witnessed outdated services and social deprivation. Throughout all our trips the lack of common knowledge has not decreased the connection and human experience we have felt with those we were caring for. Two of us will be returning to Ghana to continue vital work from past experience and insights, to focus on the delivery of sustainable and appropriate needs of the hospital. We are therefore raising funds to allow this work to continue. We will be taking equipment, donated goods, and also hope to buy locally, for the hospital, while we're there. We feel in this way we will be helping boost the economy within the region that we will be based.
