28/Aug/2025 UPDATE. Big thank you for all your support. Without your help this film wouldn't have got to the stage it has. This Crowdfunder will remain open but since I am now at a place where I can format PARIS 75 for cinema showings, I'm afraid I will no longer be able to add your name to the 'Fan Sponsor' credits at the end of the film. Thank you again for getting behind this project. Every penny means a lot. - Harvey Marcus, PARIS 75. WACCOE
Hello All,
As those who’ve followed the story of PARIS 75 so far, you’ll know it’s been a long journey - over two and half years in fact. I’ve met some great people along the way, and the support received in this group and on the YouTube Channel has gone a long way to keeping me going when, to be honest, there have been times when I’ve felt like giving up. As Richard Binns - one of the main supporters in the film - reminded me once, it’s like someone in 1975 telling you they're making a film about something that happened in 1925! Thanks Rich. Financially, as an independent filmmaker who’s put this together myself, it’s stretched me to the limit and in the absence of a rich Fairy Godmother singing ‘Marching On Together’ the costs continue to mount with more on the horizon. Once or twice, over the past six months - and only just recently - would-be big funders have made very favourable noises only to eventually beat a retreat into the distance, leaving me to wonder, ‘What next?’ This week I’ve arrived at such a crossroads.
The reason I wanted to make this film - aside from being a Leeds United fan who’s been obsessed with this match throughout his life - is because, as a filmmaker, who makes documentaries, I feel it's important to save the stories of so-called ‘ordinary people’ before - without wishing to get morbid - they’re lost forever. I’m sure everyone who’s in PARIS 75 will all receive a telegram from the King at some point… but, meanwhile, I wanted to tell the stories of Roy, Carole, Rich, Margaret and all the other brilliant contributors; tell their experience of supporting Leeds United through an era, a season, a final that made the club what it is today, and gave supporters and identity that has been passed from generation to generation. I wanted to save the first-hand experiences of them, the fans, and players like Paul Reaney and Allan Clarke - who speak about that era in a way I’ve never heard before - so they won’t be lost forever. Foremost, I wanted to give a new angle and commemorate a match that were it not for Leeds supporters would be confined to history. On May 28 of this year, no official recognition of that final came out of Elland Road - arguably the biggest match in the club’s history did not merit a tweet… PARIS 75 is about redressing the balance and reflecting how much that match matters to fans and those players, because, as Paul Reaney says in the film, ‘We should have be European Champions that year’.
PARIS 75 is completed. But, given all the above and the fact that few people - except Leeds fans - want this film, I’ve still a mountain or two to climb before it reaches a screen near you. Having recently been let down by my latest Fairy Godmother but still obligated to finding funds to get the film in cinemas - fees, permissions, licenses, even the British Board Film Classification certificate which is a legal requirement but gives no discount to small indy filmmakers - given all of that, I’ve thought long and hard about my next move before setting up a Just Giving page to raise the necessary funds to make PARIS 75 a reality.
I’d be the first to agree, on the surface, there are a thousand and worthy causes and charities to support which are more deserving of your hard-earned cash than this documentary. Totally agree. No argument. No offence taken. But if you do feel differently, and would like to contribute to helping get PARIS 75 over the finish line for a September release, then not only will I be forever in your debt, but your name will also appear on the film in the ‘thank you’ credits as an ‘Official Sponsor’. (And maybe some other perk if I can eventually afford it!)
Please follow the link to donate. Thanks for your continued support for the project and this film. All donations more than gratefully received, all donations will receive the same heartfelt thanks and film credit, however much you are able to spare. Thank you for supporting PARIS 75 and thank you reading all this. MOT. Harvey Marcus
