Story

Following the success of our £23,000 fundraising efforts in 2020, Parr Group and Parr Facilities Management Ltd's teams across the UK and Ireland are making the most of this Christmas period by raising money for mental health charities who deliver outstanding support to young people, engaging with them through sport and addressing the topic of mental health. Tackling Awareness of Mental Health Issues (TAMHI) and Midland Amateur Boxing Club, based in Northern Ireland, and The Martin Murray Think Fast Academy, St Helens, are all using sport as a tool to build confidence, fitness, teamwork, and improve mental health amongst young people in the areas where they work.

On Friday 17th December, members of our team, led by Natural Resilience Coach Ciaran May, will push their own mental limits as they endure a morning climb up Northern Ireland's highest mountain, Slieve Donard, before they immerse themselves into the icy-cold rock pools - all in aid of two very special charities.

Surpassing last year's total, the team aims to raise a mighty £30,000 to be split between these three charities in support of the tremendous work they carry out within their regions. We also hope this activity contributes to ending the stigma around mental health and raises awareness about the support that is out there for people who are suffering with mental health problems and the role that sport can play in improving mental health.

Tackling Awareness of Mental Health Issues (TAMHI) is a Northern Ireland based charity that works with sports clubs and groups who use sport to raise awareness of mental health and resilience. The charity is set up to work with sports groups willing to use the power of sport to promote positive mental fitness. Following the success of our fundraising efforts in 2020, we are delighted to continue our partnership with TAMHI to further raise awareness of the outstanding work they do in Northern Ireland.

Established in Belfast in 1974, Midland Amateur Boxing Club is home of Carl Frampton as well as a cross-community gym which focuses on creating an inclusive space for young people to develop their skills and fitness and build friendships in and out of the boxing ring.

The Think FAST Academy was set up by boxer Martin Murray in August 2021 to engage and support many young people across the St Helens area, with the idea to then move it on to different boroughs. It particularly helps young people struggling to maintain their school place, those at risk of exclusion and/or with behavioural vulnerabilities/complexities. Boxing benefits the Academy's students by getting them fit, teaching them teamwork, anger management, discipline, and improving their concentration. Through positive engagement and empowerment, they feel confident in the decisions they make, and can make similar mindset choices and decisions in real life situations, too.

Thank you in advance to those who are getting involved and for your donations.
