Story

Mastana is the Cambridge University Hindu Cultural Society’s flagship event, one of the biggest student run celebrations of South Asian culture in the UK, featuring the best talent from around Cambridge and beyond. Performances range from Indian twists on contemporary and classical Western acts, classical Indian dance and music, comedy and much more. First initiated in 1997, in the past show has been attended by over 500 people from all over the country, raising in excess of £5,000 for various Indian and local Cambridge charities.

Our 2019 show will be supporting GOONJ, an Indian NGO which undertakes disaster relief, humanitarian aid and community development in parts of 22 states across India, and MIND, a mental health charity based in the UK. The latter is especially relevant for students at the University of Cambridge, where it is estimated that around half of the university populous suffers from mental health disorders.

Our show receives no university funding, so we are completely dependent on the generous donations we receive; we are grateful for any funds donors can provide and are working hard to ensure Mastana is high quality production so we can provide the best possible support to our chosen charities.

If you have any questions about the show or the charities we are supporting, please feel free to email us at cuhcsmastana@gmail.com. You can also visit our website: http://cuhcs.soc.srcf.net/mastana/

Many thanks for all your support,

The Mastana 2019 Committee
