Story

The Mayor's Fund has raised £27,000 for local organisations and clubs since it began in 2007. Our main fundraising event is the annual Mayor’s Valentine Ball. This year, Storm Dennis brought hurricane force winds to Nidderdale and river levels rose dangerously high, leaving us with no choice but to cancel the Valentine Ball at the last minute. Then Mayor, Chris Skaife, swapped glad rags for a high-vis jacket to help out alongside other members of the town’s Emergency Committee. Chris planned two other events for April to help raise funds.

Sadly, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, these fundraising events have also had to be cancelled. With no prospect of being able to organise any events for the time being, as the new Mayor in Pateley Bridge, I’m appealing to local residents to help.

If you are able to make an online donation you will help the Mayor's Fund start its grant-awarding scheme again, supporting our vital local clubs and community organisations while they find a way to come back together.

Some previous recipients of Mayor's Fund grants include: Upper Nidderdale Scout Group, Friends of Middlesmoor Playground, Pateley Bridge Social Club, Glasshouses Cricket Club, Nidderdale Angling Club, Pateley Bridge Dramatic Society, Darley Playing Fields Association, and Dacre & Hartwith Village Hall and the Community Choir.

Christine Carroll of the Community Choir said “We just love singing. The Mayor's Fund has supported us generously over the years and even help pay for branded music binders which we proudly displayed when we performed at Durham Cathedral in 2018”.

Please help us to continue supporting local good causes, thank you!
