Story

Hi, my name is Patience Adediran and I have been selected out of many to attend the Amos Bursary’s New York Experience this summer for a month. I am proud member of the Amos Bursary Programme and one thing I will mention about this Bursary is how much it has pushed me in all areas of my life both professionally, academically and personally – from providing sessions around the development in our academics as well as giving us networking opportunities. These opportunities given to me has been paramount in me being able to gain valuable insights and increase my visibility within the industry, all of such has contributed to my growth. Visiting New York will present me with many learning opportunities as the city can expose me to new ways of thinking and approaching a design brief. Not only this but New York’s diversity and vibe provide me with a source of inspiration as it can act as fuel to spark my creativity and imagination. Also, I can benefit from the chance of networking with potential employers and likeminded individuals/professionals. The possibility of being able to share experiences with one another can enrich my academic and professional journey.

I am a first-year undergraduate student at UCL studying Architecture and travelling to New York and Washington DC is a privilege and this doesn’t come around very often, especially for a young black female coming from an unrepresented area in London. It is a given that some of the best architectural landscapes can be viewed across all over the world and the architectural diversity within New York City is astounding and interesting to see such as the Empire State Building or one of favourite Architect’s, David Adjaye, skyscraper - 130 William, that sits in Manhattan. Not to mention, one of the current projects I’m working on now has been influenced from the Guggenheim Museum which I am very keen to visit in real life as opposed to my laptop screen. From the historic landmarks, iconic skyscrapers to the cultural and artistic institutions, which creates an immersive learning experience for me.

Amos bursary have been paramount in my chance to go to NYC, albeit they are a charity but to get the best experience - it will require extra financial support from you. This is so my stay wouldn’t be hindered by anything that I couldn’t afford - such as new exhibits, transportation, galleries, tickets, exhibitions, work meetings and other expenses for activities that will help me to make the most out of my month stay overseas.

Thank you for making my dream possible !

Thank you so much!
