Story

Running for Hope

Hope is six year old who suffers from a rare condition called Angelman. We were told at 18 months old that she would never walk, talk or feed herself. She is now able to walk unaided for about a dozen steps, she feeds herself, even catching the missed food from her chin with her spoon. She can not form words as we would know them but is able to communicate her needs to those who know her. Her determination astounds all her family.

Although only 6 she is the size of an 8-9 year old and lifting her into and out of her car seat is becoming increasingly difficult. So her Grandad and 3 friends, Robert, Pete and John have completed the the Lyke Wake Walk of 42miles inApril 2018 in just over 16 hours. Remember the heavy snowfalls and rain that we have had during March and April, this made the ground very boggy and difficult to walk in quickly. Pete gave in to temptation at the half way point, subdued by a cold pint. The other 3 carried on even though by 14 hours all they wanted to do was sit down and stop.

But on they trod finding it hard to lift one foot in front of the other until they collapsed at Ravenscar crossing the finish line. They were weary, cold and very dirty and could only manage to utter - take us home. This in its self is a feat that should be applauded and supported, but they want to support Hope and keep her safe while she is in her car seat, so hope to raise £1000 to buy her a special carseat that will suit her needs. If you feel able to financially support them please donate to RUNNING FOR HOPE. Otherwise they might decide to punish themselves even further. Thank you
