Story

White Bear Productions (previously known as Theatre d’Europe) is a well established theatre company that prides itself in producing innovative and challenging new work and welcomes a cross section of creative personnel to have the exciting opportunity to be part of the dynamic and memorable piece of theatre.

After the success of, ‘Les Vaches Dans Le Champ’ the company is now producing the second play in Patrick Hayes’ trilogy, ‘All My Pretty Ones.’ The play tells the story of the tragic Nazi massacre that took place in a quiet, tranquil village in south west France, Oradour Sur Glane, 10th June 1944.

2024 is the 80th anniversary of the tragedy and the company dearly wish for Oradour to be commemorated in honour of the 642 men, women and children who lost their lives that day in the most barbaric way. It is summed up succinctly by Sir Laurence Olivier in the opening scene of the renowned TV series, World at War.

"Down this road, on a summer day in 1944 . . . The soldiers came. Nobody lives here now. They stayed only a few hours. When they had gone, the community which had lived for a thousand years . . . was dead.

This is Oradour-sur-Glane , in France. The day the soldiers came, the people were gathered together. The men were taken to garages and barns, the women and children were led down this road . . . and they were driven . . . into this church. Here, they heard the firing as their men were shot. Then . . . they were killed too. A few weeks later, many of those who had done the killing were themselves dead, in battle.

The play had a very successful rehearsed reading last year and now the writer has finalised the script it is ready to be performed.

We have exciting plans to stage with a cast of diverse young emerging artists and established performers.

The play is due to be shown at the Birmingham Rep June 2024. However, in order to secure this, the company needs to meet our fundraising target.

Any amount will be appreciated and for all who do, your name will be put into a prize draw as a special thank you. Plus, not only will you be funding a piece of new and exciting writing, you will be giving employment and opportunity to local actors, technicians and designers as well as production staff.

Merci. Thank you.
