    Story

    GUINSAUGON TYPHOON APPEAL

We're raising £10,000 to help restore/repair the church, school and houses of Guinsaugon which were devastated by super typhoon Rai in December 2021.

My name is Patrick Walker. My wife Amelita Walker comes from the Philippines. Her family live in the village of Guinsaugon on the island of Southern Leyte, in the Philippines.

On the 17th of February 2006 the village of Guinsaugon was devastated by a massive landslide killing virtually all the people in its vicinity including all but one of the children in the local primary school, as well as the teachers and all others in the village at that time. The surviving people eventually were relocated to a new purpose built village near the original site.

Tragically, as you are probably aware, last year just before Christmas 16th December 2021 a super typhoon " Rai " hit the Philippines. Once again the village of Guinsaugon St. Bernard Southern Leyte was one of the places which bore the brunt of this terrible storm. The local church, school and people's houses and livelihoods have been decimated by this devastating typhoon.

So we have set up this charitable fund to help the people restore their village and get back on their feet. To this end we wish you to sponsor us for our fundraising walk/run of 10 half marathons ( 131 miles ) in ten days within a twelve day period; 21st February - 4th March 2022.

    Thank you for your support,

    Paddy and Amy Walker

The money raised is now safely in the Philippines and is already being put to excellent use. We know that this will be a huge help to the church and the people of Guinsaugon village.

It's been a strange and very difficult week. As well as my best friend, David Ward (former deputy head teacher of the Good Shepherd School ) dying last Tuesday, I have seriously injured my leg whilst training. My doctor told me I have damaged muscles in my leg and need to rest it for few weeks. I'm hoping to take on our challenge in the next couple of weeks. We seem to be having no luck! Thank you for your wonderful support. God bless 💖
