Story

FASD DOGD UK is the first of its type in the Uk. It was started by Ali Mccormick who is the first dual trained social worker, foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) specialist and dog trainer, who is also an adoptive mum of three children with FASD.
This is the UK's first ever FASD service dogs program, to develop bespoke emotional and behavioral assistance using specially bred and trained dogs for those with FASD.
FASD Dog Star and Sparky had their first FASD Dog goldador litter 26.3.18 and produced 11 stunning puppies, nine of which are now serving Fasd families.
We, The Greens, have been lucky enough to be selected for a pup from the second litter; Cruz. Cruz will be placed with us mid - late March and will receive approved basic training. Once he is deemed to have passed this, we will go on to attend specialist FASD Assistance dog training. The £1500 pays for Cruz and the specialist training. FASD dogs is a not for profit charity.
As you will know FASD is a spectrum disorder and has affected our family in the way a spectrum disorder does - varied, unpredictable, devastating and yet sometimes a superpower. You will also know that our boys have achieved great things. they have surpassed expectations but life can be incredibly hard sometimes. I firmly believe that Cruz will be key to further success for our boys.
This is how Ali describes the assistance her dogs can give:
"So many people ask what our dogs can do more than a pet . The answer is deliberate breeding and bespoke training if required. The pups first and foremost develop bonding and nurturing qualities and increase the persons awareness of responsibility, safety and ownership. The bond grows and the pup becomes a devoted friend to a person who struggles with friendship and relationships. We all know how painful this is to watch. The dog can encourage the person to go out and have a purpose in life, offer assistance and routine, can be a happy welcoming face , be fun for all the family.
