Story

The person holding the award in the picture on the left is Fiona, a middle school friend with whom I came back into contact five or so years ago having not seen her for 46 years. We hit it off immediately, mainly on Facebook. We shared a passion for politics, social policy and social justice.

In February 2021 Fiona died, aged 58, from cancer.

I promised myself I would do something to mark her passing that would make a real, material difference to peoples’ lives, however small. Fiona ‘walked the talk’, taking positive action to bring about the change for which she longed. The legacy is her brilliant charity, Something to Look Forward To (see below).

So, to raise money for this charity, in August, I will climb the highest peaks in the Derbyshire Peak District, Yorkshire Dales and Lake District - Kinder Scout, Whernside, Scafell Pike - in one week

Something to Look Forward To is now run by Fiona's daughter, Francesca (pictured with her mum), and aims to promote the well-being, relieve the stress and aid the recuperation of people experiencing the effects of cancer and its treatment, together with their families. They do this particularly by the provision of positive individual and/or family experiences. For more information - https://somethingtolookforwardto.org.uk/about/

I will be extremely grateful for any support you may be able to give. I will provide daily updates of my progress on Facebook and let you know when I have achieved my goal. I will also let you know when any money raised has been transferred to the charity.

Many thanks in advance for your help!
