I've raised £300 to help get a phone each for Bernie and Spike while Bernie is in hospital and pay for a bus pass for spike so he can visit his partner.

Story

Let's Care for Bernie and Spike

Bernie, one of our homeless friends, is currently in hospital. She is very poorly indeed with pneumonia and sepsis.

She and her husband, Spike, are a devoted couple. They have very little income, are unhoused and have addiction issues. This is a worrying and challenging time for them. Both are frightened and confused.

We have decided to launch a small fund to support Spike and Bernie through her hospital stay.

Funds will be spent on a weekly bus pass for Spike, phone credit, some tv credit, and the hundred and one little items that the rest of us would take for granted to make a prolonged hospital stay bearable.

We will publish a weekly list of expenses so that you are kept in the loop.

We will be pulling out all the stops to help this lovely young couple:

Hh core volunteers are visiting every day and will keep on top of washing etc
Ryder will support Spike on the street and be a friend to whom he can unburden
When Bernie is a little more stable we will ferry her friends amongst the homeless community up to see her
We have given Spike a letter confirming that his wife has been admitted, to prevent any harassment
Bev has written to the Head of Patient Experience to urge that Bernie is treated with the respect and dignity given to any other patient.

In any community, friends and neighbours rally round when one of their own faces weeks in hospital. It will be exactly the same for Bernie, we will make sure of it ❤️
