I've raised £30000 to help Cameron's Companions provide an informal & easy service for young people with suicidal thoughts, I am trekking to Everest Base Camp.

Now back home, it all seems a blur. Remembering the highs; the scenery, the people, the trekking, the achievement. And the lows; the temperature! sanitation, the food.
We covered 168 miles walking for 75 hours, we walked 311,013 steps, climbed and descended 26,296 feet (8,015 M). Reached the highest point at the top of Ranjo Pass - 17,772 Ft (5,417 M).
Thank you again to Kumar and the A team for the guiding and porterage, Lynn for the organisation and the rest of the team for the company and inspiration.
I don't think I will be repeating this any time soon, but I loved the experience. I am also thrilled and humbled by the generosity of those of you who have donated, I thank you.
Cameron's Companions has now been registered by the Charity Commission and with your help they can really start to make a difference.
We left the mountains this morning returned to the vibrant city of Kathmandu .
What a remarkable trip. Thank you to our lead guide, Kumar, guides, Pasan and Soonam, Sirring, Sherpa and Porters. You are all amazing.
Thank you to those of you who have supported Cameron's Companions we are still fundraising. The charity commission confirmed registration last week, so they should now be able to claim gift aid on donations.
Day 8
we reached Everest Base Camp at 5300 M after trekking for 7 hours. what a spectacular,, increadinle, exhausting and emotional experience. I have tried to upload more photos and a video without success. Have a look on my Facebook page for further updates. Thank you all for your contined support.
Day 5, a wonderful start. We walked about 7 miles and elevated to 14,200 feet (4,400 M) in Dingboche. Wonderful visit to the Monastery yesterday,
Day 4 a very hilly walk to Tengboche at 3900M with our first cloudless view of Everest. Still 5 days hiking before we reach Base Camp.
Day 3 of the trek, 8 miles from Namche Bazar to Khyangjuma. Starting with up, up and up to Everest View point (3,881m). We got a glimpse of Everest, but great views of Lhotse and Ama Dablam. The track up was very busy, but thankfully we took a quieter route down to Khumjung, the Sherpa village, where Edmund Hillary established a senior school in 1961. After lunch we headed out of the village along a lovely track to our base for the night.
We woke up on day 4 to amazing views and a good trek ahead
Day 2. We ascended over 3000 ft today walking over 7 miles, arriving in Namche Bazar. The most incredible village with 52 hotels and no roads! Everything is bought up the same way as we came, either carried, on Donkey/Yak or by helicopter. It was too cloudy to see Everest today, maybe tomorrow.
On 10th October, 9 friends and I will be travelling to Nepal to attempt an 18 day trek to Everest Base Camp and three Himalayan High passes climbing to over 18,000 ft. Rather than doing this just for the challenge, I have decided to use the opportunity to raise funds for a well deserved cause and to help young people in need.
We lose too many young people who take their own lives when sometimes, all they need is to talk to the right person and be listened to. I have lost a nephew, friends and colleagues in this awful way. Young lives so tragically lost. The lasting effect on the family is devastating and all so unnecessary and avoidable.
www.cameronscompanions.com has been formed by the inspirational Smart family who lost Cameron last year. They are creating a “listening ear” for people that don’t want the formality of the standard doctor referral system. They aim to provide an informal & easy fast-track service for young people that have been diagnosed as depressed & need specialist help which they cannot afford. They have raised over £129,000 so far and will soon be a registered Charity and able to qualify for Gift Aid. In the meantime, we are helping them to raise as much as we can. The target is now £30,000, but I know how generous you can be.
