Story
Meet Maeve, a shining example of resilience and joy in the face of adversity. Her journey has been anything but easy, yet her spirit remains unbroken.
In October, Ben Saltmer and I are participating in the York Marathon with the goal of raising £8,000. The funds will be used to support my niece who wishes to have her own accessible bike.
Maeve was born healthy in 2019 but suffered continuous cardiac arrests when she was just a few days old. After weeks in hospital and end of life care, facing decisions parents should never have to make, Maeve made a miraculous recovery that doctors still struggle to explain. However, her life has been far from straight forward ever since.
Maeve has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy, is non-verbal, and relies on a wheelchair for mobility. Despite all her challenges, Maeve remains one of the happiest 5-year-olds you could meet, is cognitively able and understands just like any other child her age and wishes to be involved like everyone else!
Maeve loves rides and being active with her friends and family, so when we had the opportunity to test ride a Wheelchair Bike, she was in her element.
Unfortunately, specialist equipment is very costly. So, although very optimistic, we would like to try our best to raise enough money to buy her a Wheelchair Bike that will last her until adulthood. This would be a gateway to Maeve's joy, freedom, and inclusion. Let's come together to give Maeve the lifelong gift of outdoor joy and activity, empowering her to embrace the world with confidence and boundless enthusiasm!
