Story
A year ago, my mum had two heart attacks and was brought back to life twice, At the same time she had a stroke and got pneumonia. All this happened in covid times. My mum is now back pottering around her garden, cooking for herself and her speech is not far off normal. All this is thanks to the brilliant work done by the CCU ward ( critical care unit) at Glenfield hospital. The compassion and care that was given to my mum and also the compassion given to myself, sisters and brother was beyond exceptional. I would like to raise enough money to put three computer tablets onto the ward for patient use and also to do something for the staffroom ( decorate and add a coffee machine etc) for the amazing NHS staff. I am also wanting to raise money for the scotty's little soldiers charity. This is a charity for British forces children who have lost a parent. This money will help 1,000 children in the UK without access to support. With this in mind i have decided to give up a week of my holidays and put myself through one of the biggest challenges there is to raise money for the CCU ward. Along with five other people, i am intending to do the The peaks cycle challenge. This is climbing the three highest peaks in Britain. Ben Nevis, Scafell pike and Snowdon, but with a twist. We are going to cycle between them ( 494 miles of cycling ). A demanding challenge of 4000 meters of ascent ( 13,200ft ) and very long days in the saddle. Day one : Climb ben Nevis and 14 miles cycling. Day two : Cycle from Fort William through the Scottish highlands, Glencoe and the Rannoch moor to Paisley (104 miles). Day three : Cycle from Paisley, passing south of Glasgow to Gretna ( 93 miles ). Day four : Cycle from Gretna to seathwaite, Climb Scafell Pike then cycle to Keswick ( 66 miles of cycling and climbing Englands highest mountain). Day five : Keswick to Warrington ( 104 miles). Day six : Warrington to Betws-y-coed ( 79 miles ). Day seven: Cycle to Snowdon (22 miles ), climb the mountain, THEN COLLAPSE.
ALL of this has also been made possible by the generosity of Hambleside Danelaw, Nevlock engine components, Nevlock Performance, NMBS Commando joe's and Who have sponsered the trip. A big thank you from all of the team.
