Story

Miles Better 2026 – One Walk. Two Generations. Two Causes.

In September 2026, my son Connor and I will set off on an incredible journey, walking from Liverpool to Bristol over five days to raise money for two charities that mean the world to us: Samaritans and Macmillan Cancer Support.

This isn’t just another charity walk.

Last year, I completed my first Miles Better walk and was overwhelmed by the kindness, encouragement and generosity of complete strangers. It reminded me that even when life feels at its darkest, people are willing to help you take the next step.

That’s exactly what Miles Better is about.

For over ten years I have lived with bipolar disorder and depression. In November 2024, I reached my lowest point and attempted to take my own life. Thanks to the incredible work of medical staff, my family, friends and organisations like Samaritans, I was given another chance.

Since then, I’ve made a promise to myself that if I could help even one person realise they are not alone, then every mile would be worth it.

Sadly, since my last walk I’ve also lost a close friend, Phil, to suicide. His loss has made this year’s challenge even more important.

As if that wasn’t enough, earlier this year doctors discovered a growth in my shoulder that required emergency surgery. Facing the possibility of cancer changes your perspective on life. It reminds you just how precious every day really is.

That’s why this year we’re also supporting Macmillan Cancer Support—because no one should have to face cancer alone.

This walk is different in another special way.

For the first time, my son Connor will be walking every mile with me.

It isn’t just about a father and son completing a challenge together. It’s about showing that talking openly about mental health, supporting each other through life’s toughest moments, and making memories together are things that matter at every generation.

Over five days we’ll battle tired legs, blisters, unpredictable weather and over 150 miles of road between Liverpool and Bristol.

Every step will represent someone who has struggled.

Every mile will honour those we’ve lost.

Every donation will help someone who still needs support.

If you can spare anything at all, no matter how small, it really will make a difference. If you’re unable to donate, please share this page with your friends, family and colleagues. The more people who hear about Miles Better, the more lives we have the chance to touch.

Thank you for believing in us.

Together, let’s prove that every mile can make life a little…
