    Story

My name is Paul, and I am proud to say that I am a survivor. Just over 9years ago I suffered from depression and tried to take my own life, now I look back and appreciate the help and support that I got that turned my life around. ALPS NI is a Charity that I started with my friend last year to Educate all ages in Mental Health and Suicide prevention.

The last leg of the Camino de Santiago is something that will be mentally challenging, require a great deal of effort and give me a goal to finally say thank you for everything everyone did for me.

Today I still face the legacy that my depression gave me, Anxiety and fear that one day my Depression will return. Everyone needs goals in their lives and this will certainly be one for me.

I want to raise money to raise awareness that Men too often suffer Mental illness in silence without ever getting the courage to speak out and in so many cases help comes too late.

ALPS NI is a charity that comes from my heart, Educating from the very young to our elderly to show and identify to people that the stigma which surrounds Mental Health needs to change. At some point in our lives Mental Health will affect us all, whether it be from grief, stress or uncontrollable factors.

Please support me, my Charity and all persons who walk with me in life with Mental illness.

    Many thanks,
    Paul

The 112km final walk of the Camino de Santiago is a mental challenge that I normally would not set myself, but this is something that I have wanted to do for a long time and now I have the just cause to do it.
