I'm raising £3000 to support the Mayor of Stockport's Charity 2026/27

Story

One Man, Two Wheels, Eleven Days and 1,050 Miles (oh and Zero Common Sense)

If you’d told me a year ago that I’d be doing Land’s End to John O’Groats, I’d have laughed… and then very sensibly sat back down again.

Yet somehow, through a combination of poor decision-making, excessive bravado and an inability to say “that sounds like a terrible idea,” here I am—preparing to cycle the length of the country for the Mayor of Stockport’s charities.

As part of the Mayor of Stockport’s charity effort for 26/27, I’ve agreed—somewhat recklessly but entirely in character —to take on the length of the country to support two brilliant local organisations: Moya Cole Hospice, and Signpost for Carers.

But the truth is, this isn’t really about personal glory—mainly because there won’t be any. It’s about using something slightly ridiculous to draw attention to causes that genuinely matter.

Moya Cole Hospice (formerly St Ann’s Hospice) and Signpost for Carers both do extraordinary, often unseen work at the heart of the Stockport community.

Moya Cole Hospice provides specialist, compassionate care for people living with life-limiting illnesses, supporting not just patients but their families too—whether that’s through in-patient care, help at home, rehabilitation, or bereavement support, all focused on helping people live with dignity and the best quality of life possible.

Signpost for Carers works tirelessly to support the thousands of unpaid carers across Stockport, offering practical advice, emotional support, counselling, and help navigating everything from benefits to day-to-day challenges, ensuring carers of all ages don’t feel isolated or overlooked.

Together, they represent the very best of what local charities can do: stepping in quietly but powerfully to support people through some of the toughest moments in their lives.

So I’ll be setting off from Land’s End with questionable knees, an uncertain sense of direction, and a very firm belief that the generosity of people will do most of the heavy lifting and make my temporary suffering seem a bit self-indulgent.

All money raised through the Just Giving Page will go directly to the charity, so please spare whatever you can.
