Story

I am running the Beachy Head Half Marathon on Sunday 17th October and my son Matt is Running the Beachy Head Marathon on Saturday 23rd October. It is Matt’s first marathon and my second half marathon (last one 36 years ago). We are running for ManKind Eastbourne which is a mental health Support group for men.

It was formed by myself and Ian Pickard in January 2020 following the death of our friend Steve Garner. He was a loved and respected local business man and his death came as a total shock to his family, friends and the local community of Eastbourne.

It’s our aim to provide a safe space for men to talk about their feelings. It is also our aim to remove the stigma attached to poor mental health, especially in men. The priority is to stop men seeing suicide as the only option.

To achieve this goal, we need to raise funds so we can we can provide appropriate mental health support to our guys. We have developed a fantastic link with The Old Bank Wellbeing Trust who have been a tremendous support to us over recent months. We currently have 7 of our group receiving counselling through them.

We have had over 70 men join us since our first meeting and I know we are making a difference. With your support we can do so much more.

ManKind Eastbourne

Thank you so much Paul & Matt
