Story
Staff at Burnley College will be undertaking a series of remarkable challenges to help raise money to fund cold cots for Burnley General Hospital and bereavement support services.
The cause was chosen following the tragic loss of Chris and Abby's son, baby Alexander James Stone, who was born peacefully asleep on June 4, 2018, at 37 weeks.
Activities will include the Chester marathon, running the height of Everest (20 times up and down Pendle hill) alongside the Yorkshire and National three peaks. The team are training hard putting in the miles both on the road and on the fells.
The team are wanting to support Alexander’s grandad, who works at the college. Cold Cots give bereaved parents and families the precious time with their son or daughter, which would not be possible without the Cold Cots.
Nearly 4000 babies are born asleep each year in the UK. This means 1 in every 225 births, 9 babies each day. Your support could mean that more parents could start their grieving journey as hard and upsetting as it is, a very special time to recognise their baby as a person and as an important part of their family.
Chris and Abby have kindly agreed to share their story:
Chris and Abby found out that their baby had no heart beat at 37 weeks. Baby Alexander was born asleep on 4 June 2018 at Burnley General Hospital where members of the health care team supported Chris and Abby, taking time to create memories and acknowledge their babies existence to the world. They were given the time to dress him, take photographs, in fact, the beautiful photograph above is Alexander holding his mummy and daddy’s hand. They were also given copies of his hand and foot prints. They were able to place him in one of these special cots where they could stay with him overnight and his family could meet him. Without one of these cots this valuable family time would have been impossible.
