During my life I have had the privilege of experiencing what the beautiful country Colombia has to offer.

Since my parents emigrated to Colombia back in 2006, I have been lucky enough to travel on a few occasions for family events and I am saddened to say most recently the passing of my dad in 2016. Losing my dad has affected me and the family immensely, we all deal with grief in different ways and after a trip to Colombia in 2017 I decided to fundraise for a local football academy for deprived and underprivileged children and young people in the local community of Cartago, Colombia where my family and my mum still live. Whilst there I helped deliver some donated football kits and training equipment as well as sportswear and footwear with the generosity of Pro Touch SA CIC staff and parents. An established sports academy, with an elite football programme, internationally known, which my son attends. With the help of a wonderful lady called Luz Aidee I was able to take the donated kits to a local Football Club in Cartago in much need of resources. The coaches, players and parents welcomed my mum and myself with open arms, they were extremely grateful for the donations and couldn't thank us enough. They invited my mum and me to stay and watch one of their training sessions and I was amazed to see the enormous passion and desire the children and young people showed for the game. One boy in particular caught my eye, he had a fantastic ability to play the game, and did this effortlessly playing on a dirt pitch without shin pads and flip flops on his feet. He had a massive smile on his face when I handed him the kit and gave me an unexpected hug - This memory I will never forget.

After experiencing first hand the major lack of resources available to these deprived and underprivileged children and young people, I said to myself there and then I wanted to help in whatever way possible.

All funds raised go directly on buying various much needed sports equipment and resources, new footballs, training bibs, training cones, goals with nets, shin pads, football socks, football trainers, sports equipment to carry resources, training boards, the list is endless.

I have already planned to travel to Cartago Colombia in the summer of 2019, I will purchase all equipment and resources (trade prices through PTSA approved suppliers) needed and deliver them to Club Boca Junior Cartago. I will post pictures and videos of my journey from the training I am currently undertaking, the race itself, the journey to Colombia in 2019, purchasing the much needed equipment and most importantly the safe delivery to the football club. With your kindness and generosity together we can ensure these deprived and underprivileged children and young people will have a helping hand in their future and continued passion for the game.

Completing the half marathon for me is both a huge physical and mental challenge, in the past I have completed one 5k run, that's as far as my running ability goes...until the 4th March 2018 . WITH YOUR HELP we will be making a massive difference in the lives of underprivileged children, helping them further their development and progress within a sport they truely love.

I am eager to see the teams development upon my return".

It has been a while since I last posted, I have been busy getting resource lists ready and have been inundated with offers of support and kindness with supplies for the children and young people of Cartago, Colombia. I have been handed good condition second hand football kits/trainers/socks and football by some very generous people and am extremely grateful my story has reached so many, I hope Avianca have a generous baggage allowance because I will certainly be needing it next year :-)
