I've raised £5000 to help with the humanitarian effort in St Vincent & the Grenadines following the volcanic eruption

On April 9th at 8.40am the La Soufriere volcano erupted on the small Caribbean island of St Vincent & the Grenadines. This eruption has caused the displacement of up to 20,000 people who have had to leave their homes and livelihoods for the foreseeable future and over 6000 persons are in emergency shelters. The volcanic activity hasn’t stopped yet making this an ongoing disaster.
Kingstown Baptist Church (KBC) in the capital of the main island of St Vincent has sprung into action to provide meals and personal care kits to those in the emergency shelters. They are providing between 200-300 cooked meals a day to be distributed by the National Emergency Management Organisation to where the need is greatest.
These volunteers are doing a totally amazing job but KBC recognises that they do not have the organisational and strategic expertise or the capacity to run this kind of operation long term. They have asked me to go and help them with this using my previous experience of working on the island with the St Vincent Red Cross in the area of disaster preparedness and also using my management experience as the Director of the Red Cross in Montserrat (another Caribbean island with an active volcano). I am more than willing to go but I don’t want to them to divert the funds they receive for emergency relief, to pay for me to be there.
Therefore, I am asking if you would consider donating an amount to help me pay my own way so that I am able to go to St Vincent to help them? This would initially be for 2 -3 months with the view to going back later in the year for a longer period. I would like to raise £5000 to cover my expenses for this first trip: flights, accommodation, transport, food etc.
In order to be transparent, I also want to make it clear that I intend to give a tenth (tithe) of what I receive to the church where I am a member. If you are not comfortable with this, then can I ask you please to visit KBC’s website http:/www.kbcsvg.com/volcano and donate directly to them for their disaster relief.
Thank you so much for your time in reading this and for any donation you may choose to make.
God bless you, Pauline
