Story
On Saturday 1st September, my mum’s and my family’s life was struck by a devastating event. After being taken to the local hospital, we were informed that my mum had had a stroke. Immediately she was rushed to New Cross hospital in Wolverhampton where they confirmed our worst fears. Not only had she had a stroke but her left side was paralysed. The subsequent week was one of the hardest weeks for us all. Not only did we all have to come to terms with the paralysis but also seeing our mum in the worst condition we ever had. Supporting our mum in coming to the terms with the stroke emotionally and physically was a struggle for us all. However, we all stuck together and remained positive to enable our mum the best recovery possible.
While our mum was at New Cross Hospital in the Acute Stroke Unit , all the staff ( doctors, nurses and physios) were amazing. They made time for us when we had questions and they spent time with our mum, reassuring her and just talking with her. All the staff were friendly and were willing to help as much as possible.
During my mum’s time at this hospital, we came to know that the Acute Stroke Ward were raising money. This money would go towards funding a Christmas celebration for the stroke patients on Christmas Day. Being in hospital at any time is difficult but spending Christmas in the Stoke Ward rather than being at home would be devastating.
The Stoke Unit did an amazing job in supporting our mum and us during the first few weeks of her stroke. Now I feel it is time that we gave a little back. No matter how small your donation, I ask that you support us in raising funds to ensure that a Christmas celebration can happen for those stoke patients stuck in the ward over the festive period
If we raise enough it would be amazing to donate some funds to the Stroke Association. Continuing to raise awareness is imperative especially as we as a family are going through the aftermath of stroke.
We would like to thank you for your kindness.
