Hiking the The Peaks to Extend Our Brother's Life and Raise Awareness for GBM

Just over a week ago, we received the devastating news that our brother Gavin has been diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM), a rare and aggressive form of cancerous brain tumour. Unfortunately, there is no cure, and the statistics surrounding this disease are brutal.

The disease is complex, and emerging treatments are still undergoing trials. As with many cancers, research is ongoing. Gavin is 35 years old, with his wife Natalie and their four young boys, which makes this even more difficult.

We are aiming to raise funds to help extend and improve the quality of Gavin’s life, if at all possible, and to raise awareness for GBM. The funds will initially go towards private medical treatments that may not be available through the NHS (If suitable), and eventually, as the journey progresses, to GBM charities for research into the disease. All donations not used for medical treatments will go to charity.

Together with close family and friends, we will be taking on either the Three Peaks Challenge or the 9 edges challenge (Peak district)

This will be the weekend commencing 13th September, where we will attempt to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within 24 hours, the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales, or a challenging 37KM hike across 9 edges of the Peak District.

The coming weeks will decide our choice as we want to maximise our time with Gav and family where possible.

Any support is welcomed If you’re able to contribute, any donation, no matter the size, will make a difference and is deeply appreciated. Even if you can’t donate, sharing our story with others can help raise vital awareness. Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

*Update - 09.09.2024*

We are attending a family event on the 14/10/2024 we have decided to take the 9 Edges Peak District challenge on the 13th to make ourselves available for this.

Due to strict eligibility requirements, the trial treatment in the UK is currently limited and not an available option. As a result, Gavin is considering trial medical treatment in Germany as the most likely course of action, depending on the outcome of his upcoming radiotherapy. Treatments will be in excess of £100,000.

We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to everyone who has supported, messaged, and donated so far.
