Story
Pebbles, our 2 year old Cockapoo had an accident last weekend, she got tangled up in another dogs training lead and has badly damaged her knee. She has snapped her cruciate ligament, caused damage to other ligaments and also fractured part of her knee. She's on a lot of painkillers and needs orthopaedic surgery, we obviously want her to have this as soon as possible.
However, we have contacted our insurance company and they will only pay out £1500 as they are classing this as a cruciate ligament injury and that's what they cap payouts for that at, apparently its a common injury in overweight dogs/wear and tear and that's why it has a limit. The surgery, along with everything else (xray, pain meds etc) is likely to total more like £2500/3000. We can't afford the additional money (that's why we have her insured!) and are just at a loss as to what to do. Our vet has written to the insurance company explaining that this was a freak accident and that she is a young, fit & healthy dog. She has also appealed to them stating that if she had broken her leg they would pay and that it's wrong that because she has damaged the cruciate they won't, but they won't budge.
We have have set up this crowdfunding page after advice from others to try to raise some money towards the operation and rehabilitation. My husband and I both work, but we had a baby last year and just don't have the disposable income to find this kind of money out of the blue. We thought we had comprehensive insurance for her and certainly don't pay a cheap policy, but we have just fallen into a loophole where the insurance company is concerned.
Any donation at all would be gratefully received both by us and our gorgeous girl.
