Story
This September officers from Peckham Police Station will be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for two charities close to our hearts.
THE CHALLENGE:
The three peaks challenge involves climbing, descending and travelling between the largest peaks in each of Scotland, England and Wales – Ben Nevis, Yr Wyddfra and Scafell Pike – in 24hrs. This covers 42km of walking, 3,064 meters of ascent and extended periods of driving between. It requires determination, training, preparedness and teamwork and a bit of sleep deprivation! Each mountain must be completed in a strict timeframe to allow for reaching the summit of Yr Wyddfra for sunrise.
THE CHARITIES:
All money raised on this page will be split equally between two registered charities.
Firstly we will be supporting The Miscarriage Association – a national charity supporting families and individuals through miscarriage and baby loss through support groups, helplines and online resources. One member of our team has personally been supported through difficult family times by the Miscarriage Association and is keen to repay the support they gave, and continue to provide to other families. This is personally important to all of us for the support they provided our colleague.
Our second charity are the Rotherhithe based Time and Talents. For 137 years T&T have been supporting local people in Bermondsey and Rotherhithe through befriending for lonely elderly residents, dementia activities including bike rides and community learning and outreach activities. They run the ‘Rotherhithe Shed’ where people can take broken or old items and other individuals from the area repair or recycle them – allowing low income families to save outgoings on new items and providing purpose for lonely older people. Supporting and giving back to the community we police is a key value of our community policing.
Thank you for any donation you are able to give.
