Story
Just over 5 years ago we lost my mum Ellen to cancer. In the following year (2017), myself, along with a group of close friends and family ran our first 10k run to raise money in aid of Paul Sartori. Paul Sartori gave us invaluable support throughout one of the most difficult times in our lives, and we were overwhelmed with all of the support we gained, helping us raise over £3800 for them to enable them to continue their support for all of those in Pembrokeshire going through similar experiences.
In 2018 we ran our second 10k, this time raising money for Shalom House, a local palliative care unit in St Davids. They are an incredible charity who provide respite for those with terminal illnesses. We were once again inundated with support, and our incredible group of runners raised £3225 to help support them.
Finally in 2019 we ran our most recent Tenby 10k run in aid of the Sunderland Ward in South Pembs Hospital. This is where Mum started off her nursing career, and the staff there are some of the most dedicated people I know. The hospital was originally built in 1902 as a Royal Naval Hospital and expanded during World War II by the Royal Air Force and it has been serving our community ever since. Our ever growing group of runners, now up to 40, were overwhelmed with support and we were able to raise over £4300 for the Sunderland Ward to purchase new equipment
When the Covid pandemic started in early 2020, we soon realised that we would not have the opportunity to run in the Tenby 10k that year. We did not know however that we would also not be able to run in 2021 either due to the continuing pandemic. Whilst we completely understood that due to health and safety reasons why it could not go ahead we were all eager to start our fundraising efforts again.
In Summer of this year, my Dad Phil started looking at the possibility of organising a 10k fun run in Pembroke Dock. Due to all his hard work and the help and support of many, including the Pembroke Dock Town Council, friends and family; we have been able to organise a 10k fun run to take place later this month. We are also delighted to announce that we will be raising funds for Mind Pembrokeshire and Get the Boys a Lift (GTBAL). These two local mental health charities provide invaluable support to those in our local community and have been a lifeline to many throughout the recent pandemic. Due to us raising money for two charities this year, we have set up a crowdfunding page so that we can split the donations received between these two incredible causes.
If you are able to donate to these two incredible charities that provide invaluable support to our local community, all help and support is much appreciated.
Thank you,
Declan, Phil and our group of incredible runners.
