I've raised £500 to continue the amazing work of Khokho, who support and empower communities in Swaziland

Last summer life in London felt a bit stale so I decided to make some radical change. After leaving my job, vacating my flat and raiding the piggy bank I flew to Swaziland, a small landlocked Kingdom in Africa. While visiting this remote country I committed to working with a long-time family friend, Phili volunteering for her luxury accessories label, Khokho.
Born from a wish to celebrate Swazi’s precious and ancient weaving skills while uplifting the artisans who craft them, Khokho is committed to helping people earn a living in a country where prospects are very slim; gender based violence is common place, basic education, healthcare and sanitation is often inadequate, access to water and food is sometimes lacking and HIV or Aids is a day-to-day reality for many. Through investment and support Khokho encourages economic growth for the next generation. They champion skills and develop talent, uplift communities and provide opportunity.
What started as a selfish need for peace and discovery quickly became a commitment to support the amazing work Khokho does, giving local people purpose and on-going independence. The money raised will be used to support Buhle baKhokho – meaning Beauty of the Great Grandmothers – a group of 10 female weavers from the Ntondozi region of Swaziland.
Running a half marathon is a big mental and physical challenge for me but nothing compared to the daily lives of some living in Swaziland. I want to raise money for the women who called me Sister, the open arms, the smiling faces. I pledge this money to Khokho who will continue to nurture, empower and promote progress.
