We on the committee at The Penyffordd and Penymynydd Toddler Group recently organised a first aid course.

On the course we learnt just how very important a defibrillator is if someone goes into cardiac arrest.

We learnt that there is a 10 minute window of survival, that for every minute that passes you are 10% less likely to survive.

So at 2 minutes since a cardiac arrest you have an 80% chance of survival

At 4 minutes a 60% chance of survival

At 8 minutes just a 20% chance of survival

The current response time of an ambulance is between 10-12 minutes! This is by no means a criticism of the hard working and over stretched ambulance service. What it does mean is that the life of someone else may depend on you giving them a shock from a defibrillator!

Now the problem with this is that we don't have one in the village that is easily accessible to everyone.

We have decided to try and fund raise in the hope that the rest of Penyffordd and Penymynydd will understand how vitally important it is to have a defibrillator in our Villages.

All you would do to access it is:

Go to the outdoor cabinet placed outside the Penyffordd War Memorial Institute and grab it, that's it.

You might need this device to save a loved one, a friend, a neighbour, a complete stranger or maybe even yourself... someone might need it to save you.
