    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

Perth Academy is a school with a rich history. Its name first appears on records from 1542 but it noted as being officially founded in 1696. The current building at its Viewlands location was opened in 1932 and the school was amalgamated with Sharp’s Institution. Before this, Perth Academy was located on Rose Terrace from 1807.

The building at Rose Terrace bears some evidence of its former life. You can clearly see the image of Britannia on top of the old clock and she is still prominent on the school badge. You can also still see the location of the old war memorial on the front of the building. It was this fact which led staff and pupils of the school to decide that a plaque to officially mark the location of the old Academy building would be a fitting tribute and an important step in making sure we remember the history of the school.

In 2015, Perth Academy staff and students embarked on a project to remember the fallen of the Great War who are named on the school war memorial. It is the members of this project who have taken the idea of the plaque on the Rose Terrace building forward.

In order to install this plaque, we require £1000 to have the plaque produced at a high standard and to include the inscription that the pupils of Perth Academy have helped to write. The plaque also needs to be installed appropriately to ensure it remains there for generations to see. The inscription will read:

This A listed building designed by architect Sir Robert Reid was the site of PERTH ACADEMY from 1807 until 1932 when the Academy moved to Viewlands. This plaque is dedicated to pupils and staff who fought and made the ultimate sacrifice in the Great War 1914-1918.

We would welcome donations from the local and school community or anybody who believes in our aims to help us achieve our goal. We have already made huge progress with our projects to preserve and promote the history of the school. This plaque would help the pupils and staff who have worked tirelessly to have something concrete and lasting. It would also be a benefit to the local community in promoting the history of Perth and providing somewhere for visitors to see the significance of these beautiful old buildings.

From the family of John Lonsdale Sieber, who died in East Africa in 1917 and whose centenary was so movingly commemorated last week. Heartfelt thanks to D Dykes, L Hobson and the pupils involved.
