Story
Pete has had a tough time in the last 12 months. Things have not been easy and although there are still battles ahead, he is in a much better place currently. During the difficult times, there have been 4 things that have kept him going.
The first was The Crisis Team, based at Campbell House in Northampton. When things were at their lowest, the team really helped to put the breaks on the slide that was happening. They are a big part in helping to start the turnaround and help get things back going again. It is something that Pete is very grateful for and wants to do something to repay them. Therefore, 50% of the money raised will go to them so that they can help others that get into a similar position.
The second is the Northampton Town FC Academy and Education Departments, who Pete works for and Adam continues to assist on a regular basis. The staff and players, many without realising it, have played a big part in helping Pete to get back to a better place. There are a few staff who have played a big part in this but it would be great to raise some money for the departments. This is something that and 25% of the total will go to these.
The third is the one constant in Pete's life for many years and has become a favourite of Adam too. Hartlepool United have given Pete several highs and several more lows in the time that he has followed them and through their friendship, Adam has been dragged into the suffering as well! However, through the last 12 months, Hartlepool United and some of the players and staff have, without realising it, played a very big part in picking Pete up again. Pete has already donated individually but 25% of the money raised will go to the Pools Budget Booster, the fundraiser to support the club during the Covid pandemic.
The 4th and final element that has kept Pete going not only through the last 12 months but at different times over the last 10 years is Adam. Once again, he has been there and stepped up to support Pete in attempting the challenge of raising money. When Pete devised this idea and suggested it, there wasn't a moment's doubt when he said he would be up for it!
So to the challenge. Pete and Adam are going to cover 197 miles each by cycling around Northampton and the surrounding areas over a 10 day period starting on Monday July 20th. Why 197 miles? That is the distance from the PTS Academy Stadium, home of Northampton Town FC, to Victoria Park, the home of Hartlepool United FC. It's roughly 20 miles a day, give or take, being covered by 2 people that haven't done much cycling for quite some time, what could possibly go wrong?! It will be a challenge but given how much the 3 causes mean to both Pete and Adam, they will grit their teeth and power through it!
Pictures at the start and finish of each day will be taken and the distances covered will be calculated using the Strava App. We will keep people posted through a daily blog which will be Tweeted daily.
Please donate anything you can, even £1 will help. if 1000 people can donate £5, we hit our target. Times are hard for all of us but if you can dig deep and give even the smallest amount, both Pete and Adam would be extremely grateful, as will all 3 causes that we are trying to help!
