Story
BPS (Bridgwater Photographic Society) (https://www.bwps.org.uk/) aims to help individuals realise their potential as photographers. It does this by providing a critiquing process of photographs & those of others by established judges as well as Society members, viewing of exhibition prints and lectures by professionals & enthusiasts in the field. Practical evenings including Portrait & Still Life are held in the Community Centre and there is an extended Summer Programme. Although not a college or training establishment BPS has a Mentor Scheme for those wishing to get better acquainted with their cameras. Many Members join to improve their own photographic skills.
BPS has been active in Bridgwater for more than 40 years and is always ready to support the local community. Recently, BPS has recorded for posterity, the historic re-furbishment and expansion of the peal of bells at St. Mary's Church, Bridgwater and has now accepted a similar invitation to record the construction and commissioning of a typical Bridgwater Carnival Cart. The Cart will form part of next year's Platinum Jubilee Pageant, celebrating the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen’s accession to the throne.
BPS now aims to replace old and failing mains powered lights with a modern portable set more in keeping with current requirements. Although under consideration for quite some time (it’s a big commitment), the Committee has chosen to move now due to the involvement in the Pageant Cart Project which really does call for powerful portable lights.
