    Story

Hi I'm Peter, a 49 year old from Manchester. Following two severe relapses I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 1992. I recovered well from these relapses leading a near normal life up to 2011 when I started to detioriate rapidly.

At this time I started to get problems with my balance, movement of feet and legs, pins and needles in hands and feet, severe pains in limbs and back ect. This progression was rapid and scary resulting in me having to give up work. I am now confined to a wheelchair requiring assistance in most day to day tasks. My only chance now of not being bed ridden in to to undertake a stem cell transplant.

I am now planning to travel to Mexico for HSCT treatment. HSCT is a revolutionary treatment which involves removing your stem cells and then killing your immune system with chemotherapy, and your MS cells with it, your stem cells are then returned to rebuild your immune system MS free. HSCT has produced some amazing results with people who were previously wheelchair bound now able to walk again and even ride bikes. Peoples life's are given back to them and this is what I am aiming to achieve. There are currently several HSCT trials being undertaken within the UK but as yet the treatment is not available on the NHS. The total cost of the treatment and aftercare is in excess of £50,000 and I am aiming to raise £45,000 to contribute towards this.

Having been accepted for treatment at the Clinica Ruiz in Pueblo, Mexico I am currently on the waiting list hoping to be treated in 2017.Thanks for looking at my page, please share this if you can and thank you so much for any donations. I will post regular updates on my progress, on Facebook, when I have a confirmed treatment date.

Really successful benefit night on Friday. Thanks to all who came, your donations and good wishes. Massive thanks to Andrea, Paul and Megan for hosting. Monies raised will be paid direct due to 5% charge imposed by Just Giving. Following stopping my injections my condition remains stable which is great for me getting to Mexico. My page will close on Friday so one last push to raise further funds, if you can please please do. Just wanted to end with a massive thanks for all the support and donations. Come February will be in Mexico.

One of the main criteria for undertaking a stem cell transplant is that you washout the disease modifying drugs you take. So tonight will be my last ever Avonex injection and I can't wait. Avonex suppresses my MS and has worked to some extent. This comes with horrendous side effects resulting me being unable to move the next day. Ange has to lift me out of my bed into my.wheelchair. Symptoms last most of the day.and are.horrendous to manage. My transplant will negate the need for these drugs and side effects. Roll on Mexico.

Yeah ankle feeling much stronger following physio. I just wanted to say that when starting out this venture I never expected to reach my target just to raise as much as possible to m overall treatment costs of 55k. I'm not a cute puppy or a sick child I'm a near 50year old ugly guy so it was never going to be easy. But I still have a lot of life in me and want to see me son grow up, have grandchildren etc. So thank you so much for help and support in achieving this. Also, thank you so much Julie and Sheila for your generous donation.
