Weʼve raised £1,455 to Cancer treatment for Ricky Casey

Funded on Monday, 13th May 2019

    Story

A very good friend of mine of almost 40 years has been fighting the biggest fight of his life recently. Less than one year ago he was doing his job as a fire fighter when he became ill.

Ricky has a Cancer that is so rare that only about 400 people in the world have had it . (Renal Medullary carcinoma). There hasn’t been a lot of research around and it’s a very complex and aggressive cancer and Christie’s have only ever seen 1 person with it.

Christies applied for a drug to be supplied to Ricky which could help him and had to be approved by NHS England. NHS England have unfortunately decided that there is not enough research on Ricky's Cancer and proof the drug will work so because of the cost they won’t pay for his treatment.

Ricky has spent most of his working life keeping the public safe and now I'd like you to help him. We have no exact cost of the medication but have been told it is likely to be around £15k for a number of cycles. We need to raise £15,000 before the end of May so Ricky can start the treatment which may save or prolong his life. Please help us to help Ricky. You may not know Ricky but I'm sure you know someone that has suffered from cancer and has been lucky enough to have treatment from the NHS. Ricky can't have this and all I ask from you is £5 or £10 please. If you can give more then great. If you can't give anything then no problem I understand but please would you kindly share this so others might be able to help. Thank you.

I am very sad to have to post on here that sadly Ricky lost his battle with Cancer and died yesterday afternoon (1st May). This was before his treatment could even start. After that heartbreaking news we have to address the right thing to do regarding the donations. Firstly, we would like to give some to his wife to cover funeral costs etc. The rest of the money will then go towards a cancer charity of Nic’s choice. If anyone isn’t comfortable with this we are happy to refund their donation. If they want to message me privately I can arrange.
