Story

We are Joanna, Grant and Dave and we work in the Property team at West Whitlawburn Housing Co-operative and we are taking part in the Great Scottish Run half marathon on 30th September 2018 to raise funds for the Phil Welsh Welfare Fund.

What’s your vision?

The Phil Welsh Welfare Fund was set up by West Whitlawburn Housing Co-operative to honour a founding member and former Chairperson of the Co-operative to provide help to local people in Whitlawburn in times of hardship and crisis, when other sources have been exhausted.

Unfortunately, due to welfare reforms, the introduction of Universal Credit and high levels of poverty in the area, the number of people needing help from the fund is increasing so we would like to raise some money to ensure the fund can keep going and provide help for people who are struggling financially.

How will the money raised achieve the vision?

All of the money raised will be put into the Phil Welsh Welfare Fund to provide tailored support to those who need it. Last year we managed to raise £1200 so we are hoping to beat that this year! As the Phil Welsh Welfare Fund does not receiving funding from the local council or government, but from donations and fundraisers held by West Whitlawburn Housing Co-operative , events like this make a huge difference.
