Weʼve raised £800 to Support the St Francis Cancer Support Center in Klaipeda Lithuania

Funded on Tuesday, 4th September 2018

    Story

The St Francis Oncology Support Center is an amazing organisation in Klaipeda Lithuania. It was set up to support patients living with and beyond cancer in the Klaipeda region and after a fact finding mission to visit St Ann's Hospice Manchester last year, staff now hope to move into the provision of Palliative Care with plans for Hospice services.

Palliative Care in Lithuania is hampered by limited access to strong painkillers, lack of equipment that we take for granted such as syringe pumps to provide analgesia at end of life and little investment in specialist services.

Every year, the Center organises the "Hope Run"

to raise much needed funds and Jennifer and I will be joining the other participants. Help us to make as much money as possible to support the further development of these voluntary services for the people of Klaipeda.

We did it! And we had Lithuanian support. Gertrude Dagyte is the daughter of Dr Rasa Dagiene who runs the Paliatyvios pagalbos ir šeimos sveikatos centras in Klaipeda. Gertrude made sure we didn’t get lost on the way round and has helped us to raise over £1000 including offline donations Thanks so much for all your generosity.

A huge thank you to all you amazing people who have donated so generously. We also have some offline donations so are progressing well towards our target. In less than 24 hours we will be setting off to Lithuania and be meeting up with the people that came to UK last year. If you are wondering how we got into this fundraising event - it is hard to say no to a 6ft 4 Franciscan monk called Benedictus!
