Story
Number 3 Fighter Squadron was formed at Larkhill on 1 April 1911 as No 2 (Aeroplane) Company, Air Battalion, Royal Engineers. On 13 May 1912 it was renamed No 3 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps. The RFC became the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918. No 3 Squadron is the UK's first and oldest fixed wing aircraft squadron. It became known as No 3 Fighter Squadron.
The 3(F) Squadron Association was established for past and present Squadron members. It is the intention of the Association to raise funds to create an official memorial to record the Squadron's service and honour those who have served.
The Association has received a legacy from a late World War 2 veteran that forms the basis of the memorial fund.
