Story

Come Hill or High Water…5 Mountains, 3 Days.

Sharon Salle, widow of 1980’s Grand Prix motorcycle racer Mark Salle, has set herself the immense challenge of climbing 5 of the UK’s mountains on her own over a 3-day period this year. After attending the British Superbike Championship event at the Knockhill circuit in Scotland, she will start by climbing Ben Nevis on 10th July. Then after driving south, on 12th July she will climb Helvellyn, Lower Man, Whiteside and Raise in the Lake District.

Many who know 59-year-old Sharon are aware of her fear of heights (even climbing the commentary tower to visit long term friend and BSB commentator Fred Clark, can be a challenge for Sharon at many of the UK race circuits!!!). So, she feels she wants a strong incentive to focus on and get her successfully through the challenge ahead. What better incentive than the thought of raising money to assist a good cause.

With her long-term relationship with the sport of motorcycle racing, even after it took the life of her husband Mark in 1985 at Brands Hatch, her previous employment in support of the UK military; Sharon decided there was no worthier cause that pulled all of this together than that of True Heroes Racing.

Formed in 2012 by a serving Royal Navy Warrant Officer, True Heroes Racing (www.trueheroesracing.co.uk) is the UK’s First and Only Motorcycle Race Team for Wounded, Injured and Sick UK Service personnel and Veterans.

The team offers unique opportunities for UK Service personnel and Veterans to be directly involved in a competitive motorcycle race team, using the sport to assist their physical and mental rehabilitation; as well as prove to them, and the wider audience, that Life Changing injuries don’t have to be Life Limiting.

With the thought of helping this inspirational team, in some small way, Sharon hopes she will be spurred on to complete this challenge and help members of the team, some of whom have given so much in the name of our country.

So now is the time for you to help Sharon. Donate what you can to help her generate the incentive she needs to achieve this immense challenge, just like members of True Heroes Racing overcoming their immense challenges, some on a daily basis.
