Story
I’m cycling to Croatia, from the Netherlands, dodging COVID red zones and sleeping in my tent, to run a half-triathlon In Zadar. Last year one of the organisers convinced me when i was somewhat under the influence, and I keep my promises! I also promised not to fly in 2020, because the planet cannot afford being kicked in the face any more.
The cause is Protect Earth, a Charity Comission approval-pending charity started with some fellow reforestation fans. We are making an offer on a 140 acre plot of land in Exmoor National Park, an area that used to be full of trees but now is as bare as a babies arse. We’re going to plant ~75,000 trees on it, and the downpayment is a loan from my pension. That is how much i believe in the need to move quickly to solve the climate crisis. The more cash we have on hand, the less we need to borrow, the less interest we have to pay, and the quicker we can buy more land to plant even more trees. 🥳
