Story

https://chng.it/FW7MZt99FQ

The councils archaic, gung ho actions are rapidly filling up landfill. Overuse of skips (carbon footprint and pollution). Council properties are completely stripped before given to the tenant. All floors are removed. Even those in perfectly good condition. Curtains, poles, even toilet roll holders. This causes unnecessary stress and hardship to new tenants.

Tenants should be given the option to ‘keep or clear’. This is their new home after all. They are very often on benefits, so how are they supposed to furnish a home and be able to keep it warm with concrete floors and wooden floorboards! No curtains or curtain poles. All put into skips, and then landfill. not even charity shops or a reclamation yard.

If the council just created a disclaimer, (most housing associations do) absolving all responsibility for these items with no obligation to maintain, at least tenant would’ve chosen. Very often tenants have had to wait years before they can afford flooring. Concrete floors, bare floors, trying to keep it warm, with young children running around. This all causes mental complications, stress and anxiety, poverty and unnecessary debt.

♦️ I am working with different carpet companies to take all their end of line carpet samples and remnants that they can spare.otherwise this will end up in landfill. So far I have been storing it on my drive, but obviously this is far from ideal. I need to find storage facilities. A dry place where people who need can come to collect. Also where anyone having new carpets or flooring installed, if they have spare, can drop off. I can then size up and allocate. I would also like to bind the edges of some remanents to make rugs if needed (rug binding machines aren't cheap, i’ve been making calls to try and get a secondhand one, however I could end up having trouble with parts and then the money is wasted). I‘d like to show anyone who wanted to know how to make their own bespoke rugs.

All of this takes up a great deal of my time. Phone calls , diesel visiting carpet premises, collecting, updating Facebook, responding to messages. Storage will be an ongoing cost. I’m looking to start a nonprofit business. Charity status is very complicated, and not strictly necessary. Crowdfunding will enable me to take a low wage (no one could be expected to put the hours needed in for free) I’d also like to be able to subsidise basic new carpet if urgent and I didn’t/couldn’t source sizes needed

♥️ Please donate whatever you can afford. Imagine if you had to live with concrete floors and watch your children play on the floorboards. Think of the landfill saved as well. So many pluses!
