Story

We are walking the Pilgrim’s Way from Southwark Cathedral to Sandwich (Medieval Cinque Port) to raise funds for Sudden Cardiac Arrest UK (SCA UK) and Sandwich Medieval Trust.

SCA UK is a charity which bring together sudden cardiac arrest survivors to support one another as well as providing invaluable information and advice to them and their families/co-survivors. This is a charity close to our hearts (no pun intended!) as Mum (walking too) suffered from a sca in 2023.

Sandwich Medieval Trust supports the education and living history for the medieval period 1350-1485, including the re-construction of a medieval trading cog (ship). This is also a cause close to us due to a life long interest in history and is a local charity in which we regularly volunteer. The Trust runs the Sandwich Medieval Centre which educates and demonstrates to the general public dying crafts and the living conditions of the average townsperson in Sandwich of the time.

The walk of the Pilgrim’s Way was inspired by a combination of the lived history of the route as well as the health benefits of walking due to Mum being unable to continue with her lifelong passion of riding horses, and taking up walking instead.

All funds raised will be split equally 50:50 between the two charities listed.
